Izzy Maternity Hosts Nutrition Workshop for Expectant Moms

Atlanta, GA – Izzy Maternity hosted a nutrition workshop for expectant moms on Wednesday, August 12 at its Buckhead location. Local moms-to-be came out to learn the basics of eating healthy during and after pregnancy from a registered dietitian.
Julie Taube, RD, of Sheryl Westerman Nutrition Counseling & Weight Loss Guidance spoke about the importance of watching what you eat during pregnancy and dispelled the myth of “eating for two.” Taube recommended low-calorie snacks ideal for pregnant women and told where to purchase them. She then discussed ways to combat unhealthy cravings for sugar and salt by substituting them with healthier alternatives. In addition, she emphasized avoiding certain foods while pregnant, including white rice and potato chips since they contain empty calories.
    Taube also spoke about healthy eating tips for breastfeeding moms. She explained that eating healthy foods in proper portions is vital during nursing. Post-pregnancy dieting can be harmful while breastfeeding a baby. 
    “I found the workshop very informative, said mom-to-be, Kendall Willard of Atlanta. “I enjoyed learning about the difference between good calories and bad calories.”
    Expectant mom workshops are held monthly at one of the two Izzy Maternity locations and are always free of charge.
