Post Partum issues: September Workshop Wrap-up
Izzy Maternity in Alpharetta had a great turnout for the Post Partum Workshop on Wednesday Sept. 22. Our knowledgeable presenters gave great advice about everything from avoiding post partum depression to making organic baby food.
ISIS OB/GYN
Dr. Hughan Fredrick from Isis Obgyn. discussed the physical and emotional effects of changing hormones in new moms. He stressed that if post partum depression occurs, medication can help. However, these medicines might take up to six weeks to work. He also emphasized the importance of exercise and proper nutrition to help build confidence and well-being when you have a new baby. North Fulton Hospital Lactation Specialist
Joyce Flynn from North Fulton Hospital talked about their wonderful breast feeding support program. She recommended nursing for at least the first six months of a baby's life. Not only is it beneficial to a newborn's health, breast feeding provides skin to skin contact that helps a mother and baby bond. Joyce noted that nursing might be a little painful at first, so she recommends finding free breast feeding classes in your area for support. Yummy Spoonfuls
Agatha Achindu from Yummy Spoonfuls told us about making organic baby food. She stressed the importance of feeding babies the healthiest food possible. She pointed out that grocery store baby food has a three year shelf life, and healthy baby food should rot or sprout within a week. Agatha showed us her line of organic baby food that is made without preservatives, salt, sugar, dairy, gluten, and fillers. For more information about Yummy Spoonfuls, visit their Website.
Lumina Birth
Lacy Henderson of Lumina Birth enlightened us about the role of a Doula. Traditionally the word "doula" meant serving woman. Today, Doulas provide help and support to new families. Doulas can help new moms at the hospital with labor and delivery, and they can give support post partum to a mom at home. She will come to your home several times a week to support a family with information and practical advice about everything from lactation to methods of soothing babies. Baby Boot Camp
Sabrine Neeley of Baby Boot Camp introduced her workout program for pregnant and post partum moms. This stroller fitness program lead by certified professionals makes fitness fun for both the mother and the baby. You can begin classes before the baby comes to help prepare your muscles for labor and delivery. Postpartum, the classes provide a challenging workout that will help new moms shed weight and combat the baby blues while making new friends who have young babies too. Ardyss Shapewear
Lily Chauvin, a sexy mother of seven girls, demonstrated Ardyss Shapewear. This binding shapewear helps new moms regain and improve their pre-pregnancy figure quickly. Designed to pull the stomach muscles back together, the shapewear helps moms lose inches, eat less, and eliminate more food.
