Moms on Call Workshop
Moms on Call and Nurse and Nurture hosted an Expectant Mom Work Shop on Oct. 13 at the Izzy Maternity Buckhead location. Twenty five guests listened to the informative and entertaining presentations by Moms on Call and Nurse and Nurture, and everyone learned practical tips about caring for babies.
Laura Hunt and Jennifer Walker, the owners of Moms on Call, are both pediatric neonatal nurses and experienced moms. With much advice to offer, they began the business as a child care consultation company. Moms on Call has grown by leaps and bounds, and now they have a book, a DVD, a day-to-day in home support staff, as well as their consulting business. Laura and Jennifer gave attendees good advice about how to encourage babies to sleep through the night:
• Reproduce the womb environment that is tight, dark, and loud with swaddling, a white noise machine, and a dark bedroom
• Create a bedtime routine
• Give baby a warm bath before bed
• Feed the baby before you put him/her to sleep
Laura and Jennifer then gave a swaddling demonstration and opened the floor for questions.
Kristin Tepas, also a neonatal nurse with a child of her own, spoke next. She formed the company Nurse and Nurture to take over where Moms on Call stops. Kristin's group will come to your house and care for your baby overnight. They will do everything related to the infant's care from baths to feedings to washing baby clothes, so mom can have a good night's sleep. With about 20 nurses on staff, Nurse and Nurture often comes into the home for the first four to six weeks after a baby is born. However, they have also helped older children who can't sleep through the night.
After the presentations, guests enjoyed pastries and popcorn while they took advantage of the 20% shopping discount offered for that night only. Many of the moms-to-be who attended our event said that both Moms on Call and Nurse and Nurture will be invaluable resources for taking care of their new babies.
