Alternative Birth Methods: The Basics You’ve Always Wanted to Know

image

Labor and delivery is widely considered the most difficult phase of pregnancy, but as non-traditional birthing methods gain popularity, this does not always have to be ture. Staying informed about the options available to you as an expectant mom will help make your birthing experience a comfortable and memorable one. Here are a few of the more popular methods recommended by our friends at Isis OB/GYN:

  • Waterbirthing: Giving birth underwater is a proven way to relax mom and ease the strain of delivery on both mother and child
  • Hypnobirthing: Method of relaxation techniques that includes adjusting sounds, lightings, or settings in ways that help a mother deal with labor pains.
  • Lamaze: Another way to cope with labor pain, this is a method of breathing exercises that involves a designated support person for the mother.
  • The Bradley Method: Also involving a partner, this method uses education to create a relaxing and healthy delivery and post-delivery environment for mom.

Some of these methods may be offered through your own OB/GYN. Contact your doctor for more information and to decide what birthing method is right for you. For more information about alternative birth plans, visit Isis OB/GYN.
